⚽️ 44′ Oliver Lavale (Central Coast Mariners)
⚽️ 58′ Sam Cosgrove (Auckland FC)
⚽️ 89′ Oliver Lavale (Central Coast Mariners)
Goodwin Reich almost scored with a long shot in the 4th minute that the ccm keeper Redmayne knocked over the crossbar. Jesse Randall got his goal in the 12th minute with a great assist by Guillermo May. It wasn’t an easy shot. Lachie Brook almost got a header that got tapped away by the Mariner’s keeper. He also stopped a shot on goal by May. However, it WAS a 3 vs 1 … if he had passed it, it could have been a goal. And we thought everything was going to go our way. Until a counterattack at the end of the first half that ended in a goal in the 44th minute by Oliver Lavale. Yes, with less than 33% position in the first half.
Second half started looking up … a Francis De Vries cross into the box with Cosgrove heading the ball in. It was a great goal, his sixth of the season. By the way, Sam had the number 09 on his shirt in honour of Auckland Anniversary.
I just had a thought. Maybe Auckland FC should ALWAYS use the number 09 for whichever player wears the number 9 shirt, not just for the anniversary weekend. It would be a cool tradition to have. But maybe starting next year with whomever will be wearing that shirt. Could be Cosgrove, could be someone else.
And then … tragedy struck. CCM scored a goal in the last minute from a corner … no, not a corner. By a horrendous mistake Woud made. It was like he was trying to scoop the ball up but it bounced off his chest and over his head into the goal. He tried to get it out with his hand but it was a bit too late. HOW did that happen? Yes, I feel sorry for goalkeepers, it must be one of the hardest positions to play. People only remember your failings. BUT … Woud screwed up big time in this game with that.
