A couple of weeks ago, Ange and I were invited to the Auckland FC Summer Party, this year held at Heineken Club Silver.
It was a relaxed afternoon filled with cocktails, laughter and a DJ with great music while some attendees and Auckland FC staff played “friendly” rounds of tennis on the adjacent tennis course.
Nick Becker (CEO), Steve Corica (Head Coach) and Terry McFlynn (Director of Football) were there as well as Auckland FC players Sam Cosgrove and Callan Elliot mingling with attendees before the players were interviewed and gave a Q&A session.
These are the timestamps for each part of the interview:
- 0:00 Sam Cosgrove
- 0:29 How are you getting to meet and know your teammates? (Sam Cosgrove)
- 1:08 Any favourite goals you’ve scored? (Sam Cosgrove)
- 1:37 How have you seen Auckland FC grow and develop since the start? (Callan Elliot)
- 2:18 Have you got any favourite moments over the last 18 months? (Callan Elliot)
- 2:40 How is the way you play changed since you’ve been at Auckland FC? (Callan Elliot)
- 3:12 Does Elias work you pretty hard (fitness/egg consumption)? (Callan Elliot)
- 3:35 Tell us about your new addition to the family. (Callan Elliot)
- 3:50 What do you do outside of football? (Callan Elliot)
- 4:21 What about yourself Cozzie? (Sam Cosgrove)
- 4:36 Any favourite places in NZ so far? (Sam Cosgrove)

Of course we had a good catch up with a familiar face… Steve Corica! Hopefully we’ll be able to take a photo of the three of us with the A-League Champions Trophy (fondly known as the toilet seat) this year to complete the trifecta of “how it started…”
Club Silver is an open-air lawn bar created by Heineken at the Parnell Lawn Tennis Club this summer to capture the international ‘country club’ trend with a sophisticated, sporty aesthetic.
Thanks to Heineken NZ for helping make the summer afternoon special. Relaxing days like this remind us that football isn’t just about matches and results, but also about enjoying good company and the joy of the game.
