New Zealand DETTOL National League 2025
⚽️ Auckland FC Reserves vs. Wellington Phoenix Reserves ⚽️
Saturday 4 October 2025

Ange and I were at Fred Taylor Park for the New Zealand National League match between Auckland FC Reserves and Wellington Phoenix Reserves. This was the first ever New Zealand Derby at the Reserves level so there was a lot of pressure for both teams to try and win bragging rights. You will notice in the video just how “full-on” the Phoenix went with the “heavy” tackles. I’m surprised they didn’t get more yellow cards.
There was a good turn out of fans for both teams with the weather mostly avoiding the predicted thunderstorms and ended up only being some brief showers in the first half. We arrived early to watch the last group match of the FIFA U20 World Cup between New Zealand and Japan (Spoiler: not the result we wanted) in the upstairs clubrooms.

The video contains some of the highlights I recorded during the game including the 3 GOALS.
⚽️ 6’ Semi Nabenu (Auckland FC Reserves)
⚽️ 16’ Dylan Gardiner (Wellington Phoenix Reserves)
⚽️ 74’ Aston Burns (Auckland FC Reserves)

FINAL SCORE:
Auckland FC Reserves – 2
Wellington Phoenix Reserves – 1
Yes, what is now a typical result with Auckland FC always winning 🙂
Auckland FC – OPEN DAY
Since this was a special day, being the first NZ derby at a Reserves level, Auckland FC decided to have a club open day at the match. Most of the main squad players were there and of course there was a stand with the latest kits and other merchandise. And yeah, we got our selfie with some of the players. As always they were really nice!
