South Melbourne FC vs Auckland FC

To get to the grand final:

South Melbourne FC had beaten Vanuatu United FC 4-1 in the semi-final.
Auckland FC had beaten South Island United 1-0 in the semi-final.

South Melbourne FC vs. Auckland FC

What a match this was going to be. Teams 1 and 2 on the ladder at the end of the rounds and after the Leaders’ Group games. Playing each other before today, both teams had won a match each and also drawn one.

Daniel Normann opened the score with a great goal from the edge of the box after a corner in the 23rd minute. But the match was far from being wrapped up. Both teams battled it out with many near misses. It wasn’t until Aston Burns and Matt Ellis came off the bench and joined up to create Auckland FC’s second goal in the 72nd minute. A great pass by Burns to Ellis who then nutmegged the goalkeeper. BUT it wasn’t over. 7 minutes into extra time, Yuki Uchida headed a goal for South Melbourne FC. Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t enough as the game ended a moment later.

Auckland FC became the first ever OFC Pro League champions.

There were many fans in the stadium with a notable group of fans from South Melbourne FC singing and making noise throughout the match. The Port was noticeable missing, most likely from celebrating the main team winning the A-League at Go Media Stadium the night before. Big Red (from The Port) was still there as were others scattered throughout the stands.
