I’m pretty sure this happens when Football Australia does the draw for the next round of the Australia Cup.
All of the teams are hoping they don’t get a top A-League team and even more so not Auckland FC in the next round, as it will likely end up in a loss for them. Yeah, they could (erroneously) think that they could cause an upset (or cupset), but everyone knows the reality … it’s not going to happen!
So if you have a friend from the other team that is playing against Auckland FC, it might be a good time to go up to them and give them a comforting hug.
