Steve Corica Auckland FC - How it started, How it's going - Steve, Rob and Ange with A-League Premiers' Plate

Notice how it says How it’s going because, Auckland FC hasn’t finished yet. Now, we’re just waiting for the How it ended photo with the Final trophy.

Ange and I (Rob from New Zealand and Ange from Chile) have been Auckland FC supporters since the initial announcement on 14 March 2024 when the club revealed their name, logo and colours. Yes, we even wrote an article about it on one of our other websites way back then. We knew from that day that Auckland FC would be a fun part of our life AND we had a very strong sensation that the team would do well. So …

No, we didn’t jump on the bandwagon

We are OG. People think that since we started our Orcland FC website and our social media accounts in February 2025, that we were just jumping on the Auckland FC bandwagon only because they have been doing so well.

No. We’ve been season-ticket members since Day 1. We were even at Wellington airport and a couple of minutes after coming off a flight, just after midday when the tickets became available, we were standing at a random table securing our seats for the inaugural 24/25 season in the Black Knight Club. Yes, we believed that much in the team and have been Auckland FC Season Members since DAY 1!

How it started, how it’s going …

We always knew that Auckland FC would do well and that Steve Corica would become a household name in the NZ football community so, before Auckland FC had even officially kicked a ball, we took a photo with him at an event in August 2024.

I remember after that photo that Steve said to Ange that someone close to her heart would be coming to play for the team. Of course, Ange (who is from Chile) asked … from Chile? (Just a silent smile in response) … from Argentina? … from Brazil? The same smile but with a shrug of the shoulders indicating Who knows? You’ll have to wait to see. Of course, he couldn’t say but there was no harm in trying.

Little did we know that there would be THREE players close to our heart, from South America … one from Chile, one from Uruguay and then eventually one from Colombia.

9 months later, Ange and I were fortunate to have been invited to the official Auckland FC Players’ Awards event at Soul Bar. After the main ceremony (and before the dancing) we showed Steve the original photo we took with him back in August (which he surprisingly remembered including the chat) and asked if we could take another one like that but with the Premiers’ Plate, like a before and after. Of course, being the nice guy he is, Steve said yes and the three of us went across to the other side of the bar where the trophy was and got the photos.

The Future

Some of you may have already seen us at some of the Auckland FC Reserves games (I’m the guy with the long ponytail). We record some of the highlights to help promote this young team and those of the Northern League which usually don’t get that much attention. Also, it will be fun to look back at our footage in years to come when some of these young players become household names. This is a small peek at them BEFORE this happens.

Unfortunately, we can’t go to all the games due to “real-life” activities (family birthdays, BBQs with friends, inflatable dinosaur wrestling, etc.) BUT we will try and do our best.

The same will happen for the Auckland FC Women’s team when it eventuates. We will try to be there as much as we can.

We already have our tickets for the upcoming semis and season seats for 25/26 so you if ever see us at any of the games or elsewhere, feel free to come up and have a chat.
